Insufficient Insurance?

An additional coverage that can be elected in Missouri and Kansas is Underinsured Motorist Coverage. This protects you in the event that the at-fault driver’s insurance coverage is not sufficient to compensate you for your injuries. For example, if the other driver’s insurance has a $25,000 maximum amount of coverage and your claim should be valued at $50,000, this means they are underinsured. If you have underinsured motorist coverage, of $50,000 this means that you would be entitled to at least an additional $25,000 in insurance coverage to compensate for you injuries ($50,000 less the $25,000 from the at-fault party’s insurance).  The interpretation of if the coverage is available and how much you entitled to are always contentious issues. This makes having an attorney on your side all the more important.
